Leverock makes impact at Islanders
Dante Leverock, the Bermuda defender, scored his first goal for Harrisburg City Islanders on Friday when his header earned his side a 1-1 draw away to Charlotte Independence.
Leverock, who signed for the United Soccer League side last month, rose high to meet a corner kick in the 57th minute and score with a firm downward header to cancel out Independence’s nineteenth-minute opener.
Leverock, 22, played for Bermuda in their two World cup qualifying matches against Bahamas last month, scoring the first goal in the 5-0 win in the Caribbean in the first leg, also a header from a corner.
Islanders’ next match is against Wilmington Hammerheads away on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Leverock’s Bermuda team-mates, Nahki Wells and Reggie Lambe, played their penultimate league games of the season for their English clubs at the weekend.
Wells played a full 90 minutes for Huddersfield Town in their 2-2 home draw with Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship.
Lambe came on as a substitute for Mansfield Town at the start of the second half in their 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth in League One.
Huddersfield finish their season away to Blackpool on Saturday, while Mansfield are away to Accrington Stanley in their final game.
