Spending time at God’s feet

Praise and worship: Senior Pastor Naomi Grant, of New Genesis, will host a women’s conference next Friday and Saturday.

If there’s one time at church when people feel their most free and overjoyed, it’s during praise and worship.

That’s according to senior Pastor Naomi Grant, who leads the choir at New Genesis.

“The unfortunate thing is that portion of the service doesn’t last very long,” she said. “So we came up with an idea for a women’s event where the purpose would be spending time together and extending their time in God’s presence.”

Rev Grant will host the Queens Quarter’s Conference at Fairmont Southampton next Friday and Saturday.

Guest speaker, Evette Young, of God’s Royal Women Ministries in New Orleans, and Pastor Shanelle Burrows from West Pembroke Pentecostal Assembly will also be present at the event.

Worship will be led by New Genesis Praise Team and gospel artist McKartney Hart.

The theme will be ‘At His Feet’, which means being in a space where you can hear God’s Word and sit in His presence.

“At His Feet is the one place we will know God as our Father, which puts us all at one level of being consistently grateful,” Rev Grant said.

“When we are grateful to our Father, He expands to be everything we need and more. He goes beyond the things that divide, distract and destroy our human spirit.”

She said she hopes every woman leaves the event having experienced a personal exchange with the Lord.

“When you have an ‘At Your Feet’ moment all the words in the Bible come alive,” she said.

“I want God’s Word to become real to people because sometimes it feels as though the enemy is leading us to think that life isn’t worthwhile.

“People have bills that are real, sickness that is real, debt and depression and all these other real things and they start to question God’s existence. I want His existence to be experienced so it’s something tangible. I want people to know God is bigger than our problems.”

Most importantly she wants people who attend the conference to be filled with hope and a greater desire for God.

Rev Grant went to a similar conference at Radnor Road Christian Fellowship four years ago. It was such a positive experience she started looking into opportunities to host a women’s conference of her own. Then this year her husband, Dwight Charles Grant, pushed her to put that plan into action.

At first she was hesitant about stepping out into the forefront, however the right doors soon began to open.

“Our women’s department, Queens Quarters, meet on a regular basis and try to uplift, encourage and share with each other,” she said. “Such events give us an emotional platform where we can just be free and worship and be ourselves completely, without any kind of judgement, and just be open.

“And with this event I really wanted people to go away with the understanding that God does exist and care about us. We are all His people whether we acknowledge him or not.”

Both Christians and non-Christians are welcome to attend the event, she said.

Tickets are $35 for each night or $60 for both nights. They can be reserved by calling 595-1397 or e-mailing info@newgenesisff.com; any extra tickets will also be available at the door next week.
