Kings edge step closer

Halfway there: Smith’s Kings won their play-off first-leg

Jonté Smith and his Kemi Kings team-mates will hold a slight advantage heading into the second leg of their promotion play-off with VIFK.

Kings will go into this Saturday’s match leading 1-0 on aggregate after yesterday’s first-leg win against the Kakkonen West champions at home. An eighteenth minute goal from Sasa Jovovic proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Smith, who is approaching the end of his short-term contract with Kakkonen North champions Kings, topped the scoring charts during the regular season with 23 goals in 25 appearances, including hat-tricks against Gamlakarleby, Jakobstads and PK-37.

Smith joined Kings initially on loan from Crawley Town, of England’s Sky Bet League One, in March before signing a deal that has kept him in Finland until the end of the season
