Hornets in line for more accolades

MVP favourite Ming

Dandy Town, last season’s Dudley Eve and FA Cup winners, are in line for more honours tomorrow night at Devonshire Rec when the Bermuda Football Association holds last season’s prize presentation.

Damon Ming, Town’s experienced midfielder, is the leading contender for MVP among six other nominees, Jason Davis of North Village, Keston Lewis of Flanagan’s Onions, Sean Brangman of Somerset Trojans, Chris Caisey, the Devonshire Cougars captain, Shane Hollis of Hamilton Parish and PHC’s Jahnai Raynor of PHC.

Dennis Brown, the then Cougars coach, told The Royal Gazette in March after Town hammered Cougars to win their third title in five seasons that Ming deserved the award for his outstanding performances.

Town are also represented in the four other categories, with Jah-Quille Stowe in contention for Defender of the Year along with Tyrell Burgess of North Village, Somerset’s Trevin Ming, Darius Cox of Cougars, Greg Muir of Onions, Robert Richardson of Hamilton Parish and McQuinn Burch of Rangers.

Eight players are in contention for Young Player of the Year, with Terrance Webb of Dandy Town a leading contender along with Jaquan Smith-DeShields of North Village, Jake Fox of Onions, Somerset’s Leo Burgess, Cougars’ Alanzo Parsons, Donovan Thompson of Hamilton Parish, PHC’s Rakeem DeShields and Jahkai Dyer of Southampton Rangers.

Jomar Wilkinson, of Dandy Town, is one of three nominees for Coach of the Year, with Mick Ward of Onions and Somerset’s Danvers Seymour Jr the other contenders.

Treadwell Gibbons of Dandy Town, Troy Hall of North Village, Stephen Gould of Onions, Somerset’s Shaquille Bean, Daniel Johnson of Cougars and Nigel Burgess of Hamilton Parish are the nominees for Goalkeeper of the Year.

Jesse Kirkland, whose goals helped guide Robin Hood to promotion, is among a list of ten candidates for the First Division MVP.

Kyle Lightbourne and Kameron Fox of promoted sides Robin Hood and St George’s are in the running for Coach of the Year.

Calon Minors, the BAA youngster, has been nominated by his club for both MVP and Young Player of the Year. The midfielder will attend the University of South Carolina Upstate in the autumn on a football scholarship.

Each club’s senior coach or technical director was invited to submit one nominee from their team for each of the five categories. They could not nominate a player from another team.

A list was then compiled and sent to all the club coaches whereby they were invited to select up to three nominees from each category and rank their selections either first, second or third.

All first-choice nominees received five points, second choice three points and third choice one point. The winners in each category will be determined by the nominees receiving the most points.

In addition, the top goal scorers, and Fair Play teams will be awarded for both divisions as well as the Referee of the Year.

The BFA awards presentation starts at 7pm.
