Daughter of late politician John Stubbs qualifies as a doctor in her own right

Clemmie Stubbs (right), daughter of the late politician Dr John Stubbs and a friend, qualified as a doctor and graduated from Birmingham University recently.

The daughter of the late Dr John Stubbs has followed in her father’s footsteps and qualified as a doctor.

Clemmie Stubbs graduated from Birmingham University, England, on July 16 and will take up a post at Redditch Hospital on July 30, working in anaesthetics, urology and general medicine.

Her father, who passed away in June 1994, was the renowned MP and Cabinet Minister who tabled a landmark bill calling for changes to the Island’s homosexuality laws.

Parliament approved what came to be known as the Stubbs Bill in May 1994 despite opposition from religious groups.

“Clemmie believes this is exactly the route that her father would have wanted her to take. We know he would be very proud of her,” Robin, Clemmie’s mother, said.

Clemmie earned her first degree, in chemistry, from Edinburgh University in 2009. She then spent nine months working as a nurse aide at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital before embarking her medical degree.
