Furtado wins top award

MVP: lethal finisher Furtado of PHC Lady Zebras

Jessica Furtado, the PHC Lady Zebras striker, admitted that she was surprised after being named the Bermuda Futsal Federation League MVP at their all-star game at the Bermuda College at the weekend.

The Bermuda player beat off stiff competition to win the award that capped off her fine season.

“To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to win the award, but it’s definitely a good feeling knowing that you’re one of the outstanding players in the league,” Furtado said.

Her other accolades include scoring ten goals on the final weekend of the season to earn the leading scorer award along with the league and cup double.

“It caps off a very good year being awarded MVP, winning the Golden Boot and also my team staying undefeated and winning the league,” Furtado added.

“I worked hard this season to keep my team going being the older player on the team I had to step up and take lead on the court.

“I’m glad that I was able to join PHC and keep their winning streak going and bring my experience to the young team and guide them to the title. Without them it couldn’t be done.”

In the all-star game, the West, coached by Somerset Hurricanes’ Paul Fisher, defeated the East, coached by Dandy Stars’ Aaron Denkins, 12-9.

Kashintae Fox, of the East, won the MVP award.

Also claiming awards were Micah Pond, of PHC Zebras, who was named the top goalkeeper, and Denkins, of Dandy Stars, who took the top coaches award.
